Twenty five years after the most significant sporting event of our time, Terrence Fogarty in cooperation with USA Hockey is getting a chance to give collectors around the country his own view of the 1980 Olympic hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union.

This piece will have enormous national appeal and will be a joint venture between USA Hockey and Terrence Fogarty.

Research trips to the offices of USA Hockey in Colorado Springs and the site of the historic event in Lake Placid, New York have given me much food for thought on the content of this piece. I have to admit feeling a chill go up my spine as I sat on the players bench and gazed around the vacant but nearly unchanged 1980 Olympic ice sheet in the heart of the Adirondack mountains.

The game against the Soviets in 1980 happened before mega media hype. The preliminary build up of the game was not nearly as contrived as would happen if this event occurred today. Like many people, I watched the tape delayed game not knowing or wanting to know the outcome. The "David vs. Goliath" battle combined with the political climate of the time made this such an unforgettable game. It is an event that has only grown in popularity over the years. Twenty-five years later I'm involved with bringing back some of the emotion and excitement of this game of the century. I created a painting that combines the game itself with other elements that will help capture the atmosphere of the time. ~ Terrence Fogarty
