Winona is well-represented at this year’s MSHSL state hockey tournament. Not on the ice, but on a sought-after souvenir.

For the 19th year, the program cover for the 2016 boys and girls Minnesota state hockey tournaments features artwork. The artist commissioned for this year’s programs — Terrence Fogarty — used the iconic Sugar Loaf, Winona’s familiar bluffs and Lake Winona as his backdrop. Winona boys and girls hockey players served as models. The artwork “Breakaway at Sugar Loaf” was used for the girls program, while “Mystic Ice” is the painting used for the boys cover.

The girls state tournament was held Feb. 17-20, while the boys state tournament was early March at the Xcel Energy Center in St Paul.
