“Noonin’ Up” was the result of many memorable quail hunting trips with my friend, Dean Leeper.

I hunted with Dean near San Antonio,it’s natural gas and oil country. Those dudes in Texas would say around lunchtime that they’d like to walk along the hedgerows looking for “bobs” who were “noonin’ up.” I got such a kick out of that expression. The birds would spend the morning eating and then around lunchtime, they would get together in a covey with one sentinel on guard. That’s how I arrived at the name, “Noonining Up”, a very well received painting among quail hunters throughout the country." ~ Les Kouba
