Where Buffalo Roam - Philmont Scout Ranch By Maynard Reece

Where Buffalo Roam - Philmont Scout Ranch by Maynard Reece

This print depicts the Philmont Scout Ranch in northeastern New Mexico. The ranch was donated by native Iowan, Waite Phillips and now comprises 139,000 acres.

Scouts from throughout the world come to Philmont Scout Ranch to hike up the mountains and observe the wildlife, including the buffalo in this painting.

The 21 buffalo represent the required merit badges necessary to become an eagle scout. The bald eagle flying in the distance is a symbol of this goal.

The large rock outcropping on the mountain horizon is called the "Tooth of Time", a famous landmark for the wagon trains traveling west on the Santa Fe Trail. The wagon tracks are still visible on the Philmont Scout Ranch.

Prints are reproduced from Maynard Reece's large 4' x 6' oil painting which is hanging at Philmont Ranch.
