A Cowboy Named Anne By James Bama

A Cowboy Named Anne by James Bama

"My model for this portrait is named Anne McClure and she is a Cody, Wyoming resident. Her name is spelled Anne, but she - and all of us - pronounce it 'Annie.' No matter how you pronounce it, though, she's a real cowgirl who loves horses. She rides in the annual Fourth of July parade in Cody and rode last year in the 'Women of the West" parade. Anne was also in charge of the 1995 Frontier Festival which is hosted by the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, where they demonstrate pioneer crafts and other Western skills."

"When the time came to find a title for this painting, I was stymied for a while, until a friend reminded me of 'A Boy Named Sue,' that song by Johnny Cash. Anne looked so capable that I thought it was perfect to do a twist on the song. That's how we came up with 'A Cowboy Named Anne.'" ~ James Bama
