In The Pass - Wagon Train By Frank McCarthy

In the Pass - Wagon Train by Frank McCarthy

The emigration to the West began in the early 1800's. Most wagon trains started from Independence or Kansas City, Missouri (Kansas City as then called Westport Landing) or from Omaha Nebraska Territory. When the plains turned green after the long winter, the wagon masters pointed their long lines of canvas-covered "prairie schooners" westward, first to the Platte River then the North Platte and Sweetwater, across the Rockies at South Pass and on to the Bear and Snake Rivers. At the Raft River, some headed south to California and the rest went on to Oregon.
