Northern Flyer - Hockey And Steam Engine By Terrence Fogarty
Northern Flyer - Hockey and Steam Engine by Terrence Fogarty
After school chores put on hold. A boy pretends to be “Rocket” Richard as a steam engine powered train breaks the winter silence and rumbles through the valley. Warm aromas from a farmhouse kitchen await the players. In this painting some kids are playing ice hockey under the light of the moon as a train moves past on the nearby rail road tracks.
One of a series of paintings based on the steam locomotive. The train is the focal point of the composition, but there is still a subtle sports undertone. The background landscape is from the hills and valleys of Southeastern Minnesota. The locomotive was based on the 4-6-2 “Pacific” type steam engine that is still operational at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum.
