For the past several years, I have created an original painting for the outgoing president of our Fur-Fin-Feather Club. This reward of a painting is our way to stimulate some desirable people to serve as president. This isn’t too shabby of an award for a small nonprofit organization.

This painting was done for past president, Dean Luke.

This scene typifies many of the areas where I hunted Canada geese in west central Minnesota. Sifting through many of my slides and sketches, I wanted to do a painting that was very simple with an almost bleak background. I wanted to tell a story with the silhouette of the farmstead in the background and a water slick from the fall rains in the foreground.

This is one of my few paintings without the “Kouba 13.” There are only ten geese in the foreground. Occasionally I will do this if the design comes together and I have a comfortable composition.
