This Crow warrior is surrounded by Sioux up in Beartooth Pass. His horse is down and in his last moments, he steels himself for the final charge that will give him the glory of a fighting death. Medicine shield over his left arm, war club in his right, he silently signals his foes that he expects them to kill him hand-to-hand in a manner befitting one whose existence has centered around the honor of warfare. His adversaries, if warriors of honor themselves, may each attempt to count coup on him while he stands, that his last breaths may warm them all in glory.

The greatest honor will go to the man who first touches him, not necessarily the one who strikes the fatal blow. The enemies owe it not only to him but to themselves to grant him a fighting finish.
