Blood Man - Blackfoot Native American Indian By Howard Terpning

Blood Man - Blackfoot by Howard Terpning

The Bloods are one of the three Blackfeet bands who made their homes along the Canada Montana border. Origin of name may be because they painted their faces and robes with red earth.

Three clans of Blackfeet Indians held a vast territory in the northwestern U.S. and north into Canada. The Northern Blackfeet inhabited what is now Central Alberta, the Pigeons, southeastern Montana; while the Blood Indians guarded Montana's northwestern mountain passes.

Like all Blackfeet, the Bloods were restless and aggressive, moving frequently and warring constantly on the Cree, Flathead and Crow Indians.

The Blood Indians were superb hunters and warriors. They were also striking in their looks with distinctive clothing and ways of dressing their hair. They had strong character filled faces as shown in "Blood Man."
