"I got to know a whole group of guys in the Mankato area through my friends at the Johnson Reel Company. Doctor Paul Arnesen was one of them. He had a fine looking black Labrador retriever named Tor. Black Labs are most often associated with waterfowl and duck hunting however Tor loved to hunt pheasants."

"One day Dr. Arnesen Mentioned to me that Tor wouldn't last forever and would I consider painting his portrait. I liked the idea. I took several good photographs of Tor and went home to work on the composition. I placed the scene in a typical mid-west cornfield with a Kouba farm off in the distance. Then I had Tor coming out very proudly with a big rooster pheasant in his mouth. I added a red shotgun shell on the ground for color and to make the doctor feel good that it took only one shot to nail that rooster."
