"This painting came about because of a scratch board drawing I had done for Ducks Unlimited. I was commissioned by D.U. to create a scene to be used for a duckling crossing sign. I came up with the idea of a mother mallard and her babies. The image was used on the signs. I also made a limited edition print of the black and white drawing."

"One day my friend Elayne Lindberg of Elayne Galleries stopped by the gallery. She took one look at that small black and white drawing and fell in love with it. She thought I should do a colored version of the scratchboard."
