Deer At Lost Lake By Les Kouba

Deer at Lost Lake by Les Kouba

A doe and a couple of fawns go to Lost Lake for a drink of water with a cabin in the back ground.

"I had the good fortune of visiting this lake that is so aptly named. You go north Hibbing and drive for miles through the winding woods into the deep bush. My friends Bill and Evelyn Baxter, owners of the Baxter Advertising Agency in Minneapolis, invited us to go along to visit their relatives, the Nickoloffs, who had this delightful place on Lost Lake. They owned the only cabin on the entire lake. Everyone who ever visited loved it.

During our stay, I did quite a bit of photography and sketches of the area. When I got back to my studio I did a large oil painting of Lost Lake. I developed a brush stroke technique to give the illusion of pine tree needles without having to individually paint millions of them.

When I finished the painting I showed it to Bill Baxter and he had to have it.
